MTU's Jonynas and DU's Groves are named volleyball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week 5 of the 2021 volleyball season. Michigan Tech senior Anna Jonynas earned her third GLIAC Volleyball North Division Player of the Week award, while Davenport senior Riley Groves captured the GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolade. 


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Anna Jonynas - Michigan Tech

Senior outside hitter Anna Jonynas (Orland Park, Ill.) led Tech to its sixth straight win. She tallied her 1,000th career kill Saturday to became the only player
in Michigan Tech history to accumulate 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. For the weekend, she totaled 39 kills, averaging 5.57 kills per set, and posted a .300 attack percentage. She also contributed 29 digs.
 

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Riley Groves - Davenport

Davenport senior outside hitter Riley Groves (Walkerton, Ind.) hit .453 with 25 kills and only one error on 53 total attacks to lead the Panthers to victories over Parkside and Purdue Northwest. She tallied 10-plus kills and a .400-plus attack percentage in back-to-back matches for the first time in her career. These two matches were the 59th and 60th of her career.
