Ashland's Deemer, Reichard Sweep GLIAC Swimming Athlete of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its 12th and final weekly awards for the swimming and diving season prior to the 2018 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships. Ashland senior Ryan Deemer earned GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week accolades, while Ashland senior Grace Reichard captured GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season.


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Ryan Deemer, Ashland

Ashland senior distance swimmer Ryan Deemer won two events in a home sweep of Malone and Urbana on Friday night at Messerly Natatorium. He swam the 1,650 freestyle in 16:30.17 and was the winner in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.84. This is Deemer’s second career GLIAC weekly award after also winning it on Oct. 13, 2015.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Grace Reichard, Ashland

Ashland senior sprinter Grace Reichard won a pair of events in a home sweep of Malone and Urbana on Friday night. Reichard won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.19 seconds, just missing the NCAA “B” standard by 0.14 seconds. She was also the fastest to touch in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.84. Reichard was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay, which finished in 1:40.11. It is the third GLIAC weekly honor of Reichard’s career and her second this season after also winning on Dec. 11.
