NMU's Bundzis, GVSU's Postmus Capture GLIAC Swimming Weekly Awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its seventh weekly awards for the swimming and diving season. Grand Valley State senior Sam Postmus earned GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week accolades, while Northern Michigan junior Renars Bundzis captured GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Sam Postmus, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior swimmer Sam Postmus turned in some outstanding performances at the Calvin Invitational for the Lakers en route to the team title. Sam tallied five NCAA Division II B cuts and finished the weekend with four times ranking among the top 15 nationally. Postmus recorded first-place finishes and hit the NCAA B cut in the 400 IM (4:24.56) and the 200 IM (2:04.58), while finishing second in the 500 free (4:59.40). In addition, Postmus hit the NCAA B cut in the 200 free (1:51.13) and the 200 back (2:01.61).

MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Renars Bundzis, Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan junior Renars Bundzis captured the 200-yard backstroke at the Calvin Winter Invitational with a time of 1:44.41, earning him an NCAA A-cut and the NCAA's second-best time of the season.  He also posted a 48.69 in the 100-yard backstroke to qualify for an NCAA B-cut and now ranks seventh nationally.
