GVSU Lakers Sweep GLIAC Lacrosse Weekly Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its ninth GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards of the 2017 season. This week Grand Valley State freshman midfielder Abbi O'Neal earned GLIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week award, while senior goalkeeper Sarah Zwilsky gained GLIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week accolades completing the Grand Valley sweep.



OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Abbi O'Neal, Grand Valley State 

The Laker freshman stepped up in a big way scoring five of the last seven goals to pull out a come-from-behind 16-15 victory over McKendree. The Severna Park, Md. native provided both the tying goal and the game-winning score with just 58 seconds remaining on the clock to seal the Laker victory. She added four draw controls and a caused turnover in the win over the Bearcats. 


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sarah Zwilsky, Grand Valley State

The GVSU senior came up huge for the Lakers minding the net. Zwilsky was able to make momentous stops in the first half for the Lakers against McKendree. The most important save of the game came with just 28 seconds left in the game when the Bearcats made their final attempt at goal while being a man up. Zwilsky had 14 saves, added 3 ground balls and had no turnovers on her clears. In the loss to Seton Hill, Zwilsky recorded 10 saves and tied a career-high 6 GBs and 1 caused turnover.
