KANSAS CITY, MO. – The Northwood University No. 9 men's soccer team fell 2-1 to No. 5 Rockhurst in the Round of 16 of the 2015 NCAA Division II Championships Friday afternoon (November 20).

The Timberwolves finish the season with a 17-2-1 record, while the Hawks (18-1-2) win the Midwest Regional and move on to host Fort Hays State in the Quarterfinals on Sunday (Nov. 22).

Under the lights, the home team got on the board first on a shot from nearly 25 yards out in the 15th minute. As they've done all season, the Timberwolves responded just over a minute later. Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley) had his penalty kick saved but put the rebound in the back of the net for the equalizer at 15:45. Both teams had scoring opportunities and the Hawks would capitalize on a defensive breakdown in the 28th minute to take a 2-1 lead into the half.

In the first half Northwood maintained the offensive advantage with 10 shots, while Rockhurst led in corner kicks 3-1.

The second half saw multiple scoring opportunities on both sides with great saves by either keeper. The Timberwolves were able to get four shots and a corner kick in the last five minutes of the match but the closest NU would get to a goal would be Levock's shot that hit the post at 85:26 and a defensive save on a scramble in the box.

For the match, Northwood out-shot Rockhurst (21-16) while RU held the advantage in corner kicks (7-3). The Timberwolves put 10 shots on goal and the 2015 GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year, senior Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark / Tornbjerg) finished with eight saves. There were a total of 32 fouls and seven cautions issued.
