GVSU's Komorous and PNW's Roop honored with GLIAC weekly softball awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly softball awards following week four of the 2024 season. Grand Valley State junior first baseman Kelsey Komorous was selected for player of the week honors, while Purdue Northwest senior hurler Maddison Roop earned pitcher of the week recognition. 


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kelsey Komorous, Grand Valley State

Kelsey Komorous has been named the GLIAC Player of the Week. Komorous notched a .500 batting average in 10 games played notching 17 hits, 16 RBI, five doubles, and two home runs. She posted six consecutive multi-hit games and had at least two hits in seven of nine games. Komorous drove home four RBI's in back-to-back wins against Dominican (N.Y.) and Southwest Minnesota State. She launched a home run in back-to-back games against Southwest Minnesota State and Missouri - St. Louis. The Lakers are off this week and will begin GLIAC play next weekend on March 23rd when they travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin to face Parkside in a doubleheader. 


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Maddison Roop, Purdue Northwest

Senior Maddison Roop was a force on the mound for the Pride to begin their Florida Spring Games with a 2-0 record. She finished with an amazing 1.08 ERA and struck out 14 batters. Against Tiffin in a win, she only gave up one run and three hits with seven strikeouts and then against Minnesota-Duluth in her second start, she was able to shut down a powerful team with a record of 18-5. She currently leads the GLIAC in wins with 7, strikeouts with 57 and fourth in the conference with a 1.35 ERA.
