FSU's Joseph and DU's Whisman honored with GLIAC weekly softball awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly softball awards following week nine of the 2024 season. Ferris State sophomore second baseman Jadyn Joseph was named GLIAC Player of the Week, while Davenport freshman right-hander Hailey Whisman earned pitcher of the week honors.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jadyn Joseph, Ferris State

Ferris State University sophomore second baseman Jadyn Joseph had a big week for the Bulldogs as FSU won five games and climbed into second place in the GLIAC standings. Joseph started all eight outings on the week and posted a team-leading .480 average with a squad-best 12 hits and 10 runs scored. She also drew two walks and was hit by a pitch three times in 25 total at-bats. Her totals included two doubles, a triple and four RBI's along with three extra-base hits while accounting for 16 total bases. Joseph had three hits and two doubles while scoring three times in a 12-3 win at Parkside on Monday to go with four hits, a triple and two runs scored in FSU's 7-0 shutout win over Davenport on Saturday. She also posted a pair of hits versus Grand Valley State in a league road split on Sunday. In the field, she was nearly perfect for the Bulldogs and had 13 put-outs at second base.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Hailey Whisman, Davenport

Freshman Hailey Whisman (Jackson, Mich.) went 2-0 on the week, including a win over the conference leader, Saginaw Valley State, on Wednesday (April 10). In the win over the Cardinals, Whisman pitched all seven innings, allowing only five hits and one earned run while delivering three strikeouts. Whisman picked up her second win of the week against Ferris State on Saturday (April 13), in which she led the Panthers to a 4-1 victory. Again pitching all seven innings, Whisman did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. She ended the game with a pair of strikeouts, while only allowing one earned run and four hits. Through 14 innings, Whisman recorded an impressive 1.00 ERA on the week and moved her win total to seven on the season (leads the team).
