GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following the fifth week of the 2018 campaign. Purdue Northwest senior Kyleigh Payne earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Davenport junior Mallory Teunissen captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kyleigh Payne, Purdue Northwest
Purdue Northwest senior Kyleigh Payne was an offensive force for Purdue Northwest last week helping the Pride kick off GLIAC play with a 4-2 record on the week. She had a slugging percentage of 1.400 over the six-game stretch with five doubles and two home runs. She scored 11 of PNW's 44 runs on the week and drove in 10 RBI of the team's 42. She hit .667 (10-for-15) and helped Purdue Northwest end three of its six games early due to the mercy rule.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Mallory Teunissen, Davenport
Davenport junior Mallory Teunissen did not allow the start of GLIAC play to stop her fabulous stretch of pitching. She went 3-0 with wins against Northwood, SVSU and Ferris State and did not allow a run and just five hits in 20 innings. This week, she walked two and struck out 32 including no extra-base hits. She now has eight shutouts in her 12 wins this season.
