GLIAC announces men's basketball preseason team; MTU's White selected preseason player of the year

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) unveiled the 2021-22 men's basketball preseason player of the year and preseason team on Wednesday, as voted on by the league coaches.

Michigan Tech senior guard/forward Owen White (Rhinelander, Wis.), the reigning conference player of the year, has been unanimously selected as the 2021-22 GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year. In the spring, White averaged a conference-high 21.2 points per game, reaching double-figures in all 21 contests, including scoring a career-best 33 points in the GLIAC Tournament Championship. He received First Team All-GLIAC and All-GLIAC Defensive Team honors.

White was also named to the GLIAC North Division Preseason Team.

Joining White on the north preseason squad is Lake Superior State senior forward Kemon Bassett (Detroit, Mich.), Michigan Tech senior forward Trent Bell (Negaunee, Mich.), Northern Michigan senior guard Max Bjorklund (Orono, Minn.) and Ferris State redshirt senior wing Walt Kelser (Southfield, Mich.).

In the south division, Wayne State redshirt fifth year guard Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich.) and redshirt senior guard Darian Owens-White (Detroit, Mich.), Grand Valley State senior forwards Christian Negron (Elgin, Ill.) and Jake Van Tubbergen (Holland, Mich.) and Davenport redshirt senior guard Chris Rollins (Detroit, Mich.) were honored.

Michigan Tech was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the north division while Grand Valley State was selected to claim the south division in the coaches' preseason poll.
