GLIAC awards men's and women's swimmers and divers of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following week seven of the 2022-23 swimming & diving season. St. Cloud State junior Raf Hendriks and Wayne State junior Barbara Munoz earned the swimming awards while Northern Michigan freshman Tobie Stiles and Wayne State junior Mikaela Senkus claimed the diving honors. 


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Raf Hendriks, St. Cloud State

St. Cloud State's Raf Hendriks dominated in the pool over the weekend for the Huskies at the South Dakota Invitational, earning four individual event wins and two relay wins. On Friday, Hendriks finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.05) and 100-yard backstroke (48.98), and lead off the 400-yard medley and helped lead the Huskies to a first-place finish with a time of 3:21.57. On Saturday, Hendriks won the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.53) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.98) and lead off the 200-yard medley relay that finished first with a time of 1:29.81.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Barbara Munoz, Wayne State

Wayne State University junior Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia) was strong in a pair of meets against Northern Michigan and Findlay this past Friday (Nov. 4) and Saturday (Nov. 5).  On Friday, Munoz won the 50 free by posting a time of 24.14.  She would then finish second in the 650 free, touching the wall in a time of 6:43.86.  Swimming the fly portion of the 200 medley relay, Munoz helped the Warriors grab second place with a time of 1:47.91. The following day, Munoz was able to build on her strong performance from the day prior.  Early in the meet, Munoz was able to take first place in the 200 free, as she recorded a time of 1:55.66.  Following that, she won the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.10.  Later in the meet, she captured second place in the 100 fly by notching a time of 58.23.  In her lone relay appearance of the meet, Munoz swam the fly portion of the 400 medley relay.  She guided the Warriors to a second-place finish in that event with a time of 4:01.19. 


MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Tobie Stiles, Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan freshman Tobie Stiles highlighted the weekend for the Wildcats' swim and dive team. In the 1-meter dive, Stiles broke a school record from 1980 of 305.65, posting a 308.10 on Saturday. With that, he also qualified for the national prequalification meet. He took first place in the 1-meter dive each day and also came in second place in the 3-meter dive each day.  


WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Mikaela Senkus, Wayne State

In a pair of meets against Findlay and Northern Michigan this past weekend, Wayne State University junior Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) was able to sweep all four of the diving events.  On Friday (Nov. 4), Senkus won the one-meter competition with a score of 271.70.  She then won the three-meter diving event with a score of 284.25. The following day, she continued her strong start to the season by dominating the field once again.  In the one-meter event, she topped the field with a score of 452.18.  She also won the three-meter competition with a score of 275.03.
