GLIAC names men's and women's swimmers and divers of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following week eight of the 2022-23 swimming & diving season. Grand Valley State swept the awards with Eric Hieber and Lucy Hedley winning the swimming honors and Wrigley Fields and Maddie Kooistra earning the diving accolades.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Eric Hieber, Grand Valley State

Sophomore Eric Hieber was named the GLIAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for his outstanding performances at Oakland. Hieber won the 500 freestyle in an NCAA B standard time of 4:33.78, while also hitting a B standard with his second-place finish in the 200 free (1:39.93). In addition, Hieber also swam a leg on the 400 free relay that touched second in 3:03.81.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Lucy Hedley, Grand Valley State

Freshman Lucy Hedley has been named the GLIAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the third time it was announced by the league office. Hedley won three individual events at Division I foe Oakland University, hitting two NCAA cuts. She won the 100 free (52.08) and hit the NCAA A standard, touched first in the 200 free (1:52.12) with a B standard time and finished first in the 500 free with a time of 5:05.75. Hedley was also a part of the first-place finishing 400 free relay team (3:32.54).


MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Wrigley Fields, Grand Valley State

Senior Wrigley Fields has been named the GLIAC Men’s Diver of the Week following an outstanding dueal meet at Oakland. Fields placed first on the 1-meter board with a score 284.25, followed by a second-place finish on the 3-meter board with a score 239.03.

WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Maddie Kooistra, Grand Valley State

Sophomore Maddie Kooistra has been named the GLIAC Women’s Divier of the Week after an outstanding performance at Oakland. Kooistra placed third on the 1-meter board with a score of 254.55, followed by a third-place finish on the 3-meter board with a score of 237.98.
