GVSU's Kamin and SVSU's Meredith honored as GLIAC women's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced that Grand Valley State sophomore guard Nicole Kamin has earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Saginaw Valley State sophomore guard Lydia Meredith received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition following Week 11 of the 2023-24 women's basketball season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nicole Kamin, Grand Valley State

For the first time in her career, GVSU sophomore Nicole Kamin was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the week. Over the Lakers two wins this weekend, Kamin averaged 18.5 points, shooting 15-21 from the field, grabbing seven rebounds, and had three steals. On Thursday, Kamin tied a career-high by scoring 20 points in the 92-53 win over PNW, as she shot 80% from the floor. In Saturday’s 89-57 victory against Parkside, she scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lydia Meredith, Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State University sophomore guard Lydia Meredith made her presence known in the three games for the Cardinals this past week. SVSU tallied two wins defeating Davenport and Lake Superior State while falling to the No. 6 ranked Ferris State by two points. Meredith led the team in rebounds with 23 and steals with 10 of the 30 for Saginaw Valley. The Portland, Michigan native also added 21 points and six assists. Averaging 7.7 rebounds per game would put her fourth in the GLIAC along with 3.3 steals per game would be first sitting half a steal above the leader. Meredith is currently tied for second in steals per game in the GLIAC averaging 2.2 a game.
