UWP's Leo, FSU's Cappel Claim GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week nine of the 2019 volleyball season. Ferris State senior Allyson Cappel earned GLIAC Volleyball North Player of the week honors, while Parkside senior Ann Leo was awarded GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolades. 


 NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Allyson Cappel, Ferris State 

Had another big weekend for the Bulldogs in a huge league road sweep in the Upper Peninsula; Totaled 25 kills and 14 digs in Friday's win over Michigan Tech in a divisional showdown; Came back with 18 kills and 13 digs in Saturday's 3-1 win at Northern Michigan; Hit .287 for the weekend as Bulldogs moved to the top of the conference standings and into the driver's seat to potentially win a sixth-straight league title and top seed for the GLIAC Tournament


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Ann Leo, Parkside

Leo was key in the Rangers' big weekend, which included road wins over Grand Valley State (3-0) and Davenport (3-2), both are teams that defeated Parkside in straight sets earlier this year. Leo led the team in digs in both matches, going for 25 in just three sets at GVSU and following that up with 26 at Davenport. Leo averaged an impressive 6.38 digs per set in the two wins. She also added six assists and an ace.
