AU's Peck, MTU's De Marchi Earn GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week three of the 2019 volleyball season. Ashland sophomore setter Zoey Peck earned GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week honors, while Michigan Tech junior setter Laura De Marchi captured GLIAC Volleyball North Division Player of the Week accolades. 


 

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Zoey Peck, Ashland 

Zoey Peck helped the Eagles to a 4-0 record last week as they beat Malone last Tuesday, NCAA Tournament team Illinois Springfield on Thursday, then went 2-0 in GLIAC play against Purdue Northwest and Parkside on the weekend. She helped the Eagles hit .242 in the four matches, including over .300 in the final two contests of the weekend. Peck recorded 156 assists in the four matches, averaging 12 per set. She entered the weekend ranked fifth in the nation with 11.97 assists per set and she is the GLIAC leader in that category. Peck also picked up 42 digs (3.23 per set) and seven kills on the week. She had two double-doubles, including 46 assists and 18 digs against Malone and 36 assists and 15 digs in Ashland’s sweep of Parkside on Saturday.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Laura De Marchi, Michigan Tech

Laura De Marchi tallied 89 assists while averaging 12.71 per set on the weekend as the Huskies opened GLIAC play with wins at Davenport and Grand Valley State. She also added 29 digs, six kills, five blocks, and a service ace. She led the GLIAC in assists per set on the weekend and the Huskies to a league-leading 15.71 kills per set as a team. De Marchi was the only setter to register over four digs per set on the weekend and notched her third 50-plus assist match of the season Friday. She had double-doubles in both matches with 50 assists and 17 digs Friday and 39 assists and 12 digs Saturday.
