NMU's Kuehn, AU's Krupar Earn GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week eight of the 2019 volleyball season. Northern Michigan senior Sarah Kuehn earned GLIAC Volleyball North Player of the week honors, while Ashland sophomore Erin Krupar was awarded GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolades. 


 NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sarah Kuehn, Northern Michigan  

Kuehn led the Wildcats with 24 kills over the weekend, averaging 3.43 kills per set.  Kuehn notched 13 kills at Purdue University Northwest and 11 kills at the University of Wisconsin Parkside. The senior was on target all weekend as she finished with just one error on a total of 38 attempts and hit at a .605 clip. Defensively, she tallied seven digs from her middle blocker position and added four blocks across two matches. Kuehn is now third in the GLIAC with 77 blocks this season and is ranked seventh in school history with 331 total blocks in her career. For the weekend, she averaged just shy of four points per set, 3.9, through the weekend's seven sets. The Wildcats finished the weekend 2-0, defeating PNW 3-1 Friday night and then swept Parkside 3-0 Saturday afternoon. The team is now 6-5 and tied for fifth in the GLIAC standings with five matches left. NMU returns to action on Saturday as they will take on rival Michigan Technological University on Saturday, November 2 at 4 p.m. in Vandament.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Erin Krupar, Ashland

Krupar led the Eagles to a pair of home wins, including a comeback from 0-2 down to beat #18 Ferris State on Saturday. She finished the week with 25 kills (3.57 per set) while hitting .380 overall. She also added four blocks (0.57 per set) and 11 digs (1.57 per set). Of her 25 kills, a dozen came in the final three sets against Ferris State. She had the set-tying kill in Set 4 as the Eagles fought off their fourth straight match point during a 6-0 run that sent the match to five sets. Krupar finished with 16 kills and 11 digs in the match against the Bulldogs, and had nine kills on just 12 swings against Northwood on Friday. She ranks sixth in the GLIAC in kills (307) and kills per set (3.49).
