SVSU's Tabit, WSU's Fike Named GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the final week of the 2019 GLIAC volleyball regular season. Saginaw Valley State senior Sarah Tabit earned GLIAC Volleyball North Player of the week honors, while Wayne State junior Olivia Fike was awarded GLIAC Volleyball South Division Player of the Week accolades. 


 NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sarah Tabit,  Saginaw Valley St.

Tabit led the Cardinals to an undefeated weekend to end regular season play with wins over Northern Michigan, 3-0, and #21 Michigan Tech, 3-2. In the three-set sweep of the Wildcats Tabit led the Cardinals in kills with 14 and had a hitting percentage of .435. She added two assists, a service ace, and nine digs in the win over NMU. In the thrilling five set win over #21 Michigan Tech, Tabit led the Cardinals with a career high 30 kills in the match. Tabit is the current GLIAC leader in kills with 441 this season and is the new kills per set leader with 4.28. With the two wins the Cardinals improve to 20-7 overall and 12-4 in GLIAC play and have earned the #4 seed in the GLIAC Tournament. SVSU will host the Wayne State Warriors Wednesday (Nov. 20) in the Quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament. The first serve set for 7:00 p.m. in the Hamilton Gymnasium 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Olivia Fike, Wayne State 

Junior Olivia Fike (North Branch, Mich.) helped Wayne State win both matches this past weekend and secure the fifth seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament. She tallied 20 kills (2.22/set), while hitting an impressive .529.  Fike also was a force on defense with seven total blocks.  On Saturday in the five-set, comeback win vs. Grand Valley State she finished with 13 kills, while hitting .632.  She leads the GLIAC in hitting percentage at .356 with the next closest at .334.
