AKRON, Ohio – One day after its first game of the season and during spring break, the Walsh women’s lacrosse team took time to help out Blessings in a Backpack. The team traveled to the Rubber City Thursday evening to Helen Arnold School for the event.

After all was said and done, the Cavaliers packed over 350 bags full of food for children in the Akron area that otherwise may not have had food to eat on the weekend. The team also sponsored two children for a full year.

"It was great to see the team work together as a unit for a great cause,” said Head Coach Christy Mitchell. “Serving others helps us to realize the bigger purpose behind being a team. When we work together, a lot of great things happen!"

Mitchell helped the women’s lacrosse team partner with Blessings in a Backpack when she first arrived as the head coach.

Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. According to the non-profit organization’s website, it is currently feeding over 83,000 children in 900 schools in 46 states and the District of Columbia.
