SVSU's Garrett and WSU's Golson Jr. earn GLIAC men's basketball player of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced that Saginaw Valley State senior guard Tre Garrett has received GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors while Wayne State junior forward Colin Golson Jr. was selected as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week following Week 13 of the 2023-24 men's basketball season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tre Garrett, Saginaw Valley State

Senior guard Tre Garrett continued his dominant play at home moving the needle on his career-high for points to 41 to lead the Cardinals against Davenport. That total was eight points shy of the single-game record for SVSU and is the first time in Garrett's career that he reached the 40-point mark. He followed that performance up by continuing his career-best performance streak with a team-high 21 points and seven rebounds, the final board equaled 500 career rebounds for the Saginaw, Michigan native. Garrett completed the week going 21-35 (.600) from the floor and 18-21 (.857) from the free throw line.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Colin Golson Jr., Wayne State

Colin Golson, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Ferndale (Siena / Eastern Michigan)) was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday.  The honor comes after Golson, Jr. averaged a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent (7-of-14) from the field and 88.9 percent (8-of-9) at the free throw line.  Starting with the 73-66 win over Grand Valley State on Thursday night, the redshirt junior finished with his third career double-double (all this season) thanks to 10 points and 13 boards (personal best).  Two days later in the 84-70 defeat of Davenport, the Detroit native was responsible for 12 points and seven rebounds.
