FSU's Olayinka and NMU's Kuehl selected for GLIAC men's basketball player of the week recognition

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced that Ferris State senior forward Dolapo Olayinka has been honored as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Northern Michigan redshirt sophomore forward Dylan Kuehl earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades following Week 8 of the 2023-24 men's basketball season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dolapo Olayinka, Ferris State

Ferris State University senior forward Dolapo Olayinka had a huge afternoon for the 15th-ranked Bulldogs, leading FSU to a thrilling 90-86 comeback win over league rival Lake Superior State before a big crowd on Saturday (Jan. 6) afternoon inside Jim Wink Arena. Olayinka scored a game-high tying 21 points in FSU's lone outing of the week while pulling down a contest-best nine rebounds to go with two blocked shots. His play helped FSU erase an 11-point halftime deficit to improve to 12-2 overall this season. Olayinka went seven-of-nine from the floor and two-of-three from behind the three-point arc while making all five of his free throw attempts. Olayinka scored 12 points in the second half and also notched his 1,000th career point at the college level in the triumph. The senior standout also provided a big defensive play in the closing minute, blocking a potential LSSU game-tying shot with FSU clinging to a two-point lead. Four of his rebounds came on the offensive end in the victory.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dylan Kuehl, Northern Michigan

Sophomore forward Dylan Kuehl of Northern Michigan has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week following two road victories for the Wildcats. Kuehl helped lead an impressive defensive effort in which the Wildcats allowed 63 points at Davenport and 61 points at Grand Valley State. The Iron Ridge, Wisconsin native pulled down 10 rebounds in the two games and added five blocks and a pair of steals. On the offensive end, Kuehl averaged 15.5 points. So far this season, Kuehl has helped lead the Green and Gold to a 4-0 conference record and an 11-5 overall mark. He is second in the conference with 17.7 ppg, sixth in crashing the glass with 6.2 rpg, and third in rejecting shots at 1.3 bpg.
