FSU's Hazelton and WSU's Williams selected as GLIAC men's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced that Ferris State junior forward Reece Hazelton has been honored as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Wayne State senior guard/forward Ray Wiliams Jr. received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition following Week 4 of the 2023-24 men's basketball season. 


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Reece Hazelton, Ferris State

Ferris State University junior forward Reece Hazelton led the nation's 14th-ranked Bulldogs to back-to-back wins this past week, averaging a team-leading 14.5 points and a squad-best 6.5 rebounds per game. Hazelton tallied 11 points with seven rebounds, four assists and a steal in Monday's 89-87 regional road win at Lewis (Ill.) before coming back to score a team-high 18 points with six boards, four assists and a steal in Saturday's decisive 106-57 win over Grace Christian at Wink Arena. Hazelton netted 29 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists and two steals in the two games combined while shooting 12-of-15 (80%) overall from the floor and 100% (3-3) from three-point range along with 100% (2-2) at the free throw stripe. His play helped FSU improve to 6-1 overall this year.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ray Williams Jr., Wayne State 

Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row on Monday.  Williams helped lead Wayne State to a fourth straight win (first time since 2020-21 season) and first road victory of the season on Saturday, 74-69 at Tiffin.  The 6-4 senior finished with 14 points (5-of-8 FG), seven rebounds, two blocks, one steal and an assist in a game-high 38 minutes.
