GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 4 of the 2021 Men's Soccer season. Davenport swept the honors as junior Justice Sikkema was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Teammate Shane Marinkovich, a freshman, claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Justice Sikkema - Davenport
Junior forward Justice Sikkema (Muskegon, Mich.) moved into a tie for second in the GLIAC with a pair of goals this week to give him five on the season. He scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's 1-0 victory at Northern Michigan in the 74th minute. He also scored the game-tying goal in the 89th minute at No. 14 Parkside on Friday, which sent the match to overtime. DU went on to win in the extra session for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2017.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Shane Marinkovich - Davenport
Freshman goalkeeper Shane Marinkovich (South Lyon, Mich.) improved to 4-0 in net this season with wins against No. 14 Parkside and Northern Michigan on the road. DU improved to 4-0 in conference play and came from behind 2-0 to win 3-2 on Friday against Parkside. Marinkovich made five saves on Friday and needed just one save on Sunday at NMU to post the shutout.
