Bassitt Selected CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year; three Honored

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Trevor Bassitt of Ashland University headlines the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division II Men's Track & Field/Cross Country teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bassitt, who is from Bluffton, Ohio, is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® selection after being named to the second team in 2019-2020. Bassitt finished with a 3.56 cumulative grade-point average as a sport management major, and a 4.00 GPA in post-graduate work.
 
Bassitt helped the Eagles capture their third consecutive NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field team title in 2021. He claimed national titles in the 60-meter hurdles, 200 dash and 4 x 400 relay this season as he was named the United States Track & Field Coaches Association NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He set new Division II records in the 200 and 400 dashes this season. He recorded four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and was named the GLIAC Track Athlete of the Year, Track Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet.
 
During the outdoor season, Bassitt registered a national title in the 4 x 400 relay as he was named the USTFCCA Midwest Region Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. Bassitt won four GLIAC titles as he was named the conference's Track Athlete of the Year, Track Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet.

Bassistt was joined by Ashland's Rachel Miller and Saginaw Valley State's Sam Black. 

Miller, the AU athletic department's nominee for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year, graduated with a 3.96 cumulative GPA as a Public Relations and Strategic Communications major. She was a two-time D-II All-American as a senior (400-meter dash indoors, 400 hurdles outdoors). Miller is a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, and is on the Academic All-America ballot.

Black, concluded the 2021 athletic calendar for the Cardinals with a historic finish to his outstanding career. Black won the 2021 NCAA DII National title in the outdoor men's decathlon. After only competing in a handful of events throughout the season, Black was able to close his time as a Cardinal as a champion. He is the SVSU record holder in the decathlon and was a participant in the US Olympic Team trials at earlier this summer.
