GLIAC Announces Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its final weekly awards of the 2020-21 outdoor track and field season. On the women's side, Saginaw Valley St. sophomore Cheyenne Williamson was awarded Track Athlete of the Week, while Grand Valley St. senior Elli Kimes earned Field Athlete of the Week. For the men, Grand Valley St. senior Issac Harding was selected Track Athlete of the week, while Ashland's Noah Koch and Northwood's Zac Stickler were both awarded Field Athlete of the Week.

WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK -  Cheyenne Williamson, Saginaw Valley St.

Williamson hit another NCAA DII Provisional mark with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash. She crossed the line in 11.53 seconds. In addition, she was a member of the 4x100 relay team that crossed the line first in a provisional time of 46.26 seconds.

WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK -  Elli Kimes Grand Valley State

Senior Elli Kimes finished runner-up in the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet (May 1) with a 4.19m pole vault clear, earning her this week’s GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week mention.  Kimes currently ranks third in the division this season (4.21m) and holds the second-best program mark.  This marks Kimes’ sixth time collecting the conference accolade this season.

MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK -  Isaac Harding, Grand Valley State

Isaac Harding earned the GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honor after he clocked in at 13:43.97 in the 5,000m Friday night, good for fourth place and an automatic qualification.  The senior’s time ranks him as the Division II leader and second-best time in GVSU history.  This is the first weekly conference honor Harding has received in his career.

MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Noah Koch, Ashland &  Zac Stickler, Northwood

In winning the men’s discus on Friday at 56.03 meters/183-feet-10, Koch improved upon his previous provisional distance for the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, May 27-29 at Grand Valley State. Koch is the No. 6-ranked men’s discus thrower in the nation, moving up seven spots from where he was (No. 13) just one month ago.

Zac Stickler picked up the win in the invite shot put at the GVSU Extra Weekened meet with a toss of 18.27 meters. That mark now ranks him No. 5 nationally in the event. He broke his own school record that he had set the previous week. Prior to last week, the outdoor shot put record at Northwood had stood for 36 years.
