BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the second weekend of the new season. Grand Valley State sophomore Staci Brower earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Tiffin freshman Jenna Huffman captured South Division accolades.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Staci Brower, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State sophomore Staci Brower posted 59 kills (4.21 per set), tallied a .495 hitting percentage, and was named to the All-Tournament Team as GVSU went 4-0 at the Vulcan Invitational. She recorded 17, 15, 13, and 14 kills in the four matches, twice hitting well over .600 and never hitting lower than .368 in any match. Her 17 kills in the team's 3-2 win over Adelphi were a season-high total and she committed just eight hitting errors all weekend. With 16 total blocks in the four contests, Brower now leads the GLIAC in total blocks (37) and solo rejections (11), while ranking third in the league in points and ninth in hitting percentage.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jenna Huffman, Tiffin
Tiffin freshman middle hitter Jenna Huffman accumulated 40 kills over the weekend, helping the Dragons go 4-0 at the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament. Jenna hit at a scalding .629 mark, and was a force at the net defensively, collecting four solo blocks and assisting on 10 blocks. Huffman was efficient and consistent for TU, making only one attack error over the four matches on 62 swings.
