BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the third weekend of the new season. Northern Michigan junior Madison Whitehead earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Findlay sophomore Amanda Winner captured South Division accolades.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Madison Whitehead, Northern Michigan
Northern Michigan junior right side Madison Whitehead paced the Wildcats with 3.50 kills per set and .444 hitting percentage over its 2-0 road weekend. Madison reached the 20-kill plateau for the second time in her career against Saginaw Valley State where she hit .543 for the match in a thrilling 5-set victory. Whitehead also averaged 1.0 blocks per set.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Amanda Winner, Findlay
Findlay sophomore Amanda Winner was the driving force in Findlay's two GLIAC victories this past week as she picked up 27 kills to go along with 25 digs in the two matches. In each of the matches, Winner finished with a double-double in kills and digs, something she did just four times all of last season. In the 5-set win against Tiffin, Winner set season-highs with 17 kills and 14 digs and also tied a season-high with four aces.
