GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week - Week 7

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the 2016 Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover weekend in Aurora. Saginaw Valley senior setter Kelly Vellucci earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Findlay senior outside hitter Hannah Tong captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kelly Vellucci, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley senior setter Kelly Vellucci became the SVSU volleyball program's all-time leader in assists over the weekend at the 2016 Midwest Region Crossover Tournament. Vellucci averaged 11.70 assists per set in setting up teammates for a .278 hitting percentage while sweeping through the competition and posting a 3-0 mark. Under Vellucci's orchestration, the Cardinals hit .302 in a sweep over Cedarville before leading SVSU to a .304 hitting performance in a 3-0 win against GLVC No. 2 seed McKendree. She added 14 kills and 28 digs to the cause in victories over Missouri-St. Louis, Cedarville and McKendree. Kelly now has 3,503 career assists in her four seasons for Saginaw Valley, besting the old record of 3,466 with eight regular season matches to go this season.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Hannah Tong, Findlay

Findlay senior outside hitter Hannah Tong led the Oilers to a 3-0 record at the Midwest Crossover by accumulating a tournament best 57 kills. Tong hit .366 during the tournament and also added seven blocks. She smashed 24 kills against McKendree and then had 16 kills against Missouri-St. Louis and 17 more against Drury to end the event. The Carey, Ohio native has hammered home 298 kills this year.
