GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week - Week 5

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fifth week of the 2016 season. Ferris State University freshman hitter Allyson Cappel earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors for the second straight week, while Wayne State junior middle blocker Michelle Asiedu captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Allyson Cappel, Ferris State

Ferris State University freshman hitter Allyson Cappel had another big week for the Bulldogs as FSU stretched its winning streak to seven-straight matches. Cappel tallied 50 kills, 49 digs and nine total blocks as the Bulldogs went 3-0 on the road with victories over rival Grand Valley State, Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican. She averaged 3.85 kills and 3.77 digs per set in the three matches while hitting .197 overall. She recorded 15 kills in back-to-back wins over GVSU and Lake Erie before notching 20 kills and 16 digs in Saturday's 3-1 win at ODU. Cappel averaged 4.3 points per set for the week.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Michelle Asiedu, Wayne State

Wayne State junior middle blocker Michelle Asiedu continued her outstanding season and helped WSU win three matches this past week and improve its league-best record to 13-2. She tallied 32 kills (2.46/set), while hitting a sharp .417. In the key victory over Findlay she posted 14 kills and hit .500 for the match. She leads the league with her .439 hitting percentage, over 50 points better than the next best number.
