Ashland Posts 120 Points; Seeley's 29 Leads Northwood to Highlight #GLIACWBB Action

#GLIACWBB -- Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's basketball recap summaries from action on Thursday, December 7th, 2017. In conference play, #1 Ashland is the lone unbeaten in the GLIAC South Division at 3-0, while #18 Michigan Tech sits atop the North Division at 3-0.

 

#1 ASHLAND DEF. WAYNE STATE, 120-70 | BOX SCORE

Ashland earned its 46th consecutive victory as the Eagles put up the second most points in conference history, just one shy of the record set by Grand Valley State in 1975. Five Eagles reached 12 points or more with Laina Snyder leading the way with 25 points, seven boards and three steals. AU controlled the glass by a 50-26 margin and forced WSU into 27 turnovers which resulted in 39 points. Three other Eagles scored 18 points each: Andi Daugherty, Jodi Johnson and Brooke Smith. 

#18 MICHIGAN TECH DEF. GRAND VALLEY STATE, 85-81 (OT) | BOX SCORE

Michigan Tech gutted out a big overtime road win by shooting 54.2 percent and all five starters notching double-digit scoring, including a game-high 22 points from Brenna Heise. Tech's Lindsay Winter had an incredible night ending up just one rebound shy of a triple-double with 14 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and three steals. Grand Valley State kept the contest close due to a 40-26 rebounding edge which produced a 44-26 points in the paint advantage. Taylor Parmley paced GVSU with 21 points and 11 boards in a contest which featured seven ties and 11 lead changes.

NORTHWOOD DEF. FERRIS STATE, 80-76 | BOX SCORE

Northwood guard Maddy Seeley recorded a career-high 29 points, including 7-of-13 from the three point arc as the Timberwolves earned a big win over an improving Ferris State program. NU won the rebounding battle by a 39-28 margin and produced 18 assists on the night. Northwood led by as many as 21 thanks to a big 30-point first quarter before Ferris State fought back in the fourth quarter. Grace German recorded a career-high 16 rebounds and 12 rebounds for Northwood, while Rachel McInerney produced 22 points and seven rebound for FSU.

SAGINAW VALLEY DEF. LAKE SUPERIOR STATE, 64-52 | BOX SCORE

Saginaw Valley picked up its first win of the season after the Cardinals won the fourth quarter by a 20-8 margin. SVSU won the rebounding battle by a 45-34 advantage and produced 15 points off turnovers compared to three for LSSU. Saginaw Valley was led by Abby Duffy and Laurel Jacqmain who each posted 16 points, while Lake State's Claire Radtke guided her squad with 16 points of her own.

NORTHERN MICHIGAN DEF. PURDUE NORTHWEST, 80-52 | BOX SCORE

Northern Michigan led throughout the contest shooting 50.8 percent from the field and holding Purdue Northwest to just 32.3 percent. NMU controlled the paint by a 38-24 edge along with second chance points, 25-11. The Wildcats ran out to an early 23-7 first quarter lead to key the victory as Lexi Smith and Taylor Hodell led the way with 13 points each.

DAVENPORT DEF. TIFFIN, 58-53 | BOX SCORE

Davenport overcame a sluggish first quarter to record its first-ever GLIAC victory on the road over Tiffin. DU outmuscled TU on the glass with a 39-28 advantage and points in the paint, 28-18. Jenna Falkenberg produced a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Panthers to victory. The Dragons received a team-high 15 points from Jensen Hiegel on 6-of-8 shooting.
