Ashland's Johnson, GVSU's Boensch Named GLIAC Hoops Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following the final week of the 2017-18 regular season. Grand Valley State sophomore center Cassidy Boensch earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors for the fourth time this season and third consecutive week, while Ashland sophomore guard Jodi Johnson captured South Division accolades for the seventh time this year.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Cassidy Boensch, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore center Cassidy Boensch recorded two double-doubles over the weekend and her third in as many games. Boensch scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in GVSU's victory over Lake Superior State before setting career-high's with 32 points and 12 rebounds in the Lakers win over Ferris State. On the weekend, she averaged 24.5 points on 74.1 percent shooting from the field to go along with 11.5 rebounds per game and 10 total blocks. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jodi Johnson, Ashland

Ashland University sophomore guard Jodi Johnson came up with another strong all-around week to close out the 2017-18 regular season. In home wins over Saginaw Valley State and Northwood, Johnson averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game, while hitting 60.0 percent from the field, 55.6 percent from 3-point range and 10-of-10 from the free-throw line. In less than two full seasons, Johnson has 990 career points - 10 away from becoming the 20th player in program history to score 1,000 in a career.
