Grand Valley State sweeps women's lacrosse weekly honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the first GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards for the 2022 season. Grand Valley State claimed both honors as junior midfielder Molly Bursinger was named Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore goalkeeper Audrey Maloney received Defensive Player of the Week recogntion.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Molly Bursinger, Grand Valley State

Junior Molly Bursinger (Powell, Ohio) helped lead the No. 14 Lakers to two wins this week over No. 23 Saint Leo and No. 11 Tampa. GVSU defeated St. Leo 18-11 on Thursday and defeated Tampa 16-5 on Sunday. Bursinger finished the week with eight goals and one assists, for a total of nine points this week. The junior midfielder connected on 8 of 10 shots, shooting a stellar 80% against the two ranked opponents. Bursinger also won 23 draw controls, picked up four ground balls, and forced two turnovers this week. 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Audrey Maloney, Grand Valley State

Sophomore Audrey Maloney (La Grange, Ill.) led the No. 14 Lakers defensively in wins over No. 23 Saint Leo and No. 11 Tampa. GVSU defeated St. Leo 18-11 on Thursday and defeated Tampa 16-5 on Sunday. The sophomore goalkeeper finished with 16 saves this week, including a career-high 14 saves against Tampa on Sunday. Maloney's 14 saves also ranks in fourth place in the single-game saves record at Grand Valley State. She saved 55.2% of shots faced this week and only gave up 13 goals to the two ranked opponents.
