GVSU's Champagne and CSP's McDole earn women's lacrosse weekly honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the second GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards for the 2023 season. Grand Valley State junior attacker Maddy Champagne was honored as Offensive Player of the Week and Concordia St. Paul senior goalkeeper Candace McDole earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Maddy Champagne, Grand Valley State

Maddy Champagne earned the GLIAC women’s lacrosse offensive player of the week for her performance in the Lakers season opening weekend. This is the fourth time Champagne has earned this honor in her career. In the 14-12 season opening victory over Flagler, Champagne scored five goals and dished out two assists, while also picking up three groundballs. In the Saturday game against Rollins, she scored three more times and picked up seven more groundballs. On the weekend, Champagne scored eight goals, dished out two assists, and fielded 10 groundballs.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Candace McDole, Concordia St. Paul

For the second time in her career, Concordia-St. Paul senior goalie Candace McDole was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. The Maple Ridge, British Columbia native had a strong performance in CSP's road loss at Rockhurst, registering 11 saves while facing 35 shots, allowing only 10 goals to record a .524 save percentage. She also added a pair of ground balls and had two caused turnovers as a defensive presence. McDole has played in two of CSP's three games, holding a .440 season save percentage with 22 saves, securing 11 in each contest while recording 11 ground balls and three caused turnovers.
