GVSU's Canyadell and NU's Platsiota named GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its second weekly tennis awards for the 2022 campaign. Grand Valley State graduate student Pep Canyadell was named men's player of the week, while Northwood freshman Rafaella Platsiota was selected as women's player of the week. 


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Pep Canyadell - Grand Valley State

Pep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain) picked up a straight set victory to help Grand Valley State defeat Hillsdale 7-0 Saturday. He defeated Sean Barstow 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Canyadell has picked up his third win at the top singles position and has helped Grand Valley State to a 4-1 record.


WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rafaella Platsiota - Northwood

Freshman Rafaella Platsiota (Athens, Greece) went 4-0 last week for Northwood, leading the Timberwolves to a pair of road wins. She went 2-0 at No. 2 singles, winning in straight-sets against both Walsh and Ashland. Plasiota teamed with Sanvi Ahluwalia at the No. 2 slot in doubles to go 2-0, dropping a total of three games in two sets. Northwood is 3-0 to open the season.
