DU's van Wijk and GVSU's Griva honored with GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week accolades

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its ninth weekly tennis awards for the 2022 campaign. Davenport freshman Quintan van Wijk was selected men's player of the week, while Grand Valley State sophomore Vasileia Griva received women's player of the week honors.


MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Quintan van Wijk, Davenport

Quintan van Wijk (Willemstad, Curacao) ran his singles win streak to seven and also stayed undefeated in GLIAC singles at 4-0 with two wins this week. He won two three-set thrillers against Jan Koupil of Ferris State (1-6, 6-3, 7-5) and Sebastian Arce of Grand Valley (6-3, 4-6, 7-5). He is now 15-2 in singles play this season all at the number two position. He also teamed up with Joel Mast at two doubles for two wins both coming at 7-6 against Ferris State and Grand Valley.

WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Vasileia Griva, Grand Valley State

Vasileia Griva (Athens, Greece) went 4-0 overall with two wins in singles and doubles this past week to help lead GVSU to a pair of GLIAC wins against Purdue Northwest and Davenport. Griva is 10-0 overall in GLIAC play with a 5-0 record in singles and doubles. GVSU is in first place in the conference at 5-0.
