GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors | Week 3

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the third weekend of the 2018 outdoor track and field season. In women's competition, Grand Valley State senior Tiara Wiggins earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State junior Lucy Buckholz captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men's side, Ashland junior Myles Pringle earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while Saginaw Valley State junior Noah VanderVeen captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Tiara Wiggins, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior Tiara Wiggins had an excellent performance this past weekend in the 100m hurdles as she ran a season-best and hit an NCAA provisional time of 14.01 seconds, during the 2018 WKU Hilltopper Relays. Wiggins, now sits atop of the GLIAC rankings with her time and holds the 13th fastest time in Division II.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Lucy Buckholz, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior Lucy Buckholz reached a personal-best in the pole vault this past weekend, after she hit a provisional mark and cleared 4.02m (13’ 2.25”), crushing her old record of 3.82m (12’ 6.25) during the 2018 WKU Hilltopper Relays. Buckholz now holds the top mark in the GLIAC and is tied second in Division II. 


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Myles Pringle, Ashland

At the 39th Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday (April 7), Ashland junior Myles Pringle crossed the finish line in the men’s 400-meter dash in 45.57 seconds (fourth place), breaking his own school record by .20 seconds, moving into the No. 1 spot in D-II this season, and automatically qualifying for nationals by .79 seconds. Pringle also ran in the men’s 200 dash on Saturday, finishing second in the primarily-NCAA Division I field at 21.23 seconds. That set a new outdoor PR, and provisionally qualified him for outdoor nationals. Pringle earns the honors for the fourth time this academic year, while also receiving the award five times prior to the 2017-18 campaign.

MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Noah VanderVeen, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley's Noah VanderVeen placed first at the Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational in the high jump over the weekend. The junior indoor all-american claimed first place in the event, clearing the bar with a height of 2.10 meters. That mark is currently tops in the GLIAC and is tied for sixth-best in the nation. VanderVeen added a fourth place showing in the triple jump as well with a distance of 13.37 meters for a new personal best.
