Michigan Tech's DeMarchi, Grand Valley State's Doby Garner Player of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the ninth weekend of the 2017 volleyball season. Michigan Tech freshman setter Laura DeMarchi earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Grand Valley State senior middle blocker Sydney Doby captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Laura DeMarchi, Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech freshman setter Laura DeMarchi led the Huskies to two 3-1 GLIAC conference wins over Saginaw Valley State and Lake Superior State over the weekend. DeMarchi set the offense in seven sets, tallying 76 assists averaging 10.9 assists per set. She recorded 11 kills at an impressive attack percentage of .579 with zero errors. DeMarchi also chipped in 16 digs for the Huskies and served four aces. She was an asset on the net, recording a solo block and two block assists to advance the Huskies to a 16-8 overall, 10-3 GLIAC record.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sydney Doby, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior middle blocker Sydney Doby lead the Lakers to a 2-0 weekend on the road with victories over Tiffin and Ashland. Doby posted 3.38 kills per set on the week along with a .361 hitting percentage along with 2.13 digs per set. GVSU amassed 15 kills and 11 digs in a five-set victory over Tiffin before posting 12 kills, six digs and three blocks in the road sweep of Ashland.
