DU's Mets and WSU's Fitzpatrick receive GLIAC baseball weekly honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its ninth weekly baseball awards of the 2022 baseball season. Davenport junior infielder Ben Mets earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week accolades while Wayne State junior righthander Karter Fitzpatrick earned pitcher of the week honors.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ben Mets, Davenport

Junior Ben Mets (Macomb, Mich.) led a potent offense this week as DU went 5-1 in GLIAC action and averaged 16.8 runs per game. They put up back-to-back wins at Saginaw Valley to start the series in which they scored 57 runs. Mets batted .542 (13-24) and scored 15 runs including at least one in all six games. He blasted six home runs and drove in 13 runs including 10 in the SVSU series. He had a multi-homer game for the second time in his career on Thursday going 3-for-6 and drove in four runs. He homered in five straight games which had never been done before at Davenport.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Karter Fitzpatrick, Wayne State

Junior Karter Fitzpatrick (Monroe, Mich.) didn't allow an earned run in seven innings in a 4-1 win over No. 24 Grand Valley State. He struck out two batters while allowing just four hits to improve to 5-0 on the season.
