FSU's Gulker, WSU's Buschman and GVSU's Hart honored as GLIAC Football Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 11 of the 2022 football season. Ferris State redshirt freshman quarterback Carson Gulker was honored as offensive player of the week, Wayne State grad student linebacker Matt Buschman earned defensive player of the week recognition and Grand Valley State sophomore defensive back Grant Hart received the special teams award.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Carson Gulker, Ferris State

Ferris State University redshirt freshman quarterback Carson Gulker had a big day as the Bulldogs closed out the regular-season with a decisive 40-14 road win at Wayne State on Saturday in Detroit. In snowy weather, Gulker ran for a game-high 189 yards rushing on 26 carries, averaging 7.3 yards per rush, while totaling three scores on the ground. He also completed nine-of-17 throws for 197 yards and a score. Overall, he accounted for nearly 400 yards of total offense and four touchdowns for FSU, which racked up 545 total yards and 330 rushing yards in the contest. With the win, the Bulldogs finished the regular-season 9-1 overall this year and earned the number two seed in the region for the NCAA Division II Playoffs.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Matt Buschman, Wayne State

Matt Buschman led the WSU defense against sixth-ranked Ferris State. He totaled a game-high 13 tackles (10 solo, 3 assisted) along with a tackle for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, a quarterback hurry and an interception. The Wayne State defense forced five Bulldog turnovers with Buschman being a part of three of the turnovers.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grant Hart, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore defensive back Grant Hart returned a blocked field goal 45 yards for a touchdown, tallied a three tackles and recorded a career-high three pass break-ups in the Lakers 49-7 victory over Davenport to clinch the 2022 GLIAC Championship outright. GVSU scored two special teams touchdowns as safety Cole Patritto returned a blocked punt 10 yards for a touchdown. Jimmy Downs blocked a punt and Seth Hoonhorst blocked the field goal.
