MTU's Monroe, WSU's Neely Named Men's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week 14 of the 2019-20 men's basketball season. Michigan Tech senior guard Kyle Monroe was named GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Wayne State senior guard Brailen Neely earned GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honors.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kyle Monroe - Michigan Tech 

Kyle Monroe had another big week for the Huskies, averaging 23.5 points per game, including a high of 31 points at Ferris State on Thursday night. Monroe tied Tech's all-time scoring record Thursday night and then broke it Saturday with 16 points in a victory at Lake Superior State. Monroe currently has 2,376 career points with the previous record being 2,360. For the week, Monroe found the target on 51.5% of his field goals and averaged 5.5 rebounds per game for the two contests. He also averaged 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Monroe is averaging 21.8 points per game and 6.6 rebounds for the Huskies this season.

 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brailen Neely - Wayne State

Senior guard Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) helped Wayne State end a 12-game losing streak on Thursday by scoring 28 points in an overtime win against Purdue Northwest. He also finished with nine assists and two steals, while playing all 45 minutes. He led the Warriors to a 2-0 week by pouring in a game-high 21 points to go with eight assists as WSU topped Parkside 64-51 on Saturday. Neely averaged 24.5 points, 8.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds for the two wins, while playing all 85 minutes. He shot 53 percent (18-of-34) from the floor, including 46 percent (6-of-13) from three-point range. Neely was perfect at the foul line (7-of-7).
