GLIAC Football Players of the Week - Week 10

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 10 action. Grand Valley State sophomore running back Marty Carter earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season, while Ohio Dominican redshirt sophomore linebacker Ross Thompson captured GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Michigan Tech junior James Henderson claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Marty Carter, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore Marty Carter toted the ball 34 times for 200 yards and two touchdowns in No. 2 GVSU's 62-56 double overtime win at Saginaw Valley State the sealed the 2016 GLIAC Football Championship. Carter hit the 200-yard mark for a GVSU single-season record third time this season and also established a career-mark with four games of 200 yards or more. Carter's TD runs came with 1:39 (5 yards) left in the game and in the second overtime (2 yards) to clinch the win. With the game tied 42-42 Carter toted the ball 13 times for 52 yards in a 16-play, 73-yard drive that took 8:37 off the clock and in overtime he carried the ball six times for 29 yards and a touchdown.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Ross Thompson, Ohio Dominican

Ohio Dominican redshirt sophomore linebacker Ross Thompson recorded the second most tackles (17) by a GLIAC player and third most tackles-for-loss (4) by a GLIAC player this season in a 28-17 victory over Wayne State on Saturday. Thompson's 17 stops tied for third most tackles in a game in ODU history and his four TFL's tied for fourth-most in game in ODU history. He helped anchor a defense that held Wayne State to 117 yards and 19 points below its season averages.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - James Henderson, Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech junior James Henderson made some big plays in the 51-45 Miner's Cup victory over Northern Michigan on Saturday, highlighted by a fourth quarter blocked punt. After a Michigan Tech punt, Northern Michigan got the ball back but the Huskies' defense stood tall to force a punt. The Tech special teams then came up with another big play when Henderson blocked the punt which setup the offense at the NMU 15. MTU proceeded to punch the ball in with 56 seconds to go in regulation, giving the Huskies a 45-38 lead. Henderson also returned four kicks for 93 yards and took his lone rush of the day 72 yards to paydirt in the third quarter on offense.
