Northwood Captures 2017 GLIAC Men's Soccer Championship

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Northwood Timberwolves walked into rival territory and came out with the GLIAC Men's Soccer title after a 1-0 victory over No. 16 Saginaw Valley. This marks the second league champonship for the program with the first coming in 2015 and gives Northwood hosting duties for the 2017 GLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament..

NU's Sebastian Grillo's first collegiate goal of his career was a memorable one as it was the game-winning goal for the Timberwolves. The freshman received a pass from James Vaughan and had a brilliant shot to put the ball over the goalie and into the back of the net 30 yards out to give Northwood the 1-0 lead in the 82nd minute.

No. 1 Northwood and No. 2 Saginaw Valley earned first-round byes on to the semifinal round, while No. 3 Tiffin hosts No. 6 Northern Michigan and No. 4 Davenport faces off with No. 5 Purdue Northwest in quarterfinal action on Tuesday, October 31. The quarterfinal winners will advance to Northwood who will host the 2017 GLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
