Ashland Ties GLIAC Single-Game Scoring Mark to Highlight #GLIACWBB Weekend Action

#GLIACWBB -- Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's basketball recap summaries from action on Saturday and Sunday, December 16-17, 2017. #1 Ashland and #18 Michigan Tech remain the two lone unbeaten teams in the conference at 5-0, while Grand Valley State and Northwood are both 4-1 in league play. Only four teams are over .500 in conference action through five contests. 

#1 ASHLAND DEF. TIFFIN, 121-56 | BOX SCORE

The top-ranked team in the nation proved its dominance once again on Saturday with a dominant performance Saturday on the road. The 121 points ties the GLIAC record for the most in a regular-season game, equalling the mark set by Grand Valley State against Hillsdale on Dec. 13, 1975, and are the second-most in a game in AU women's basketball history. Jodi Johnson led AU with 22 points and five steals while Maddie Dackin posted a career-high 21 points.

#18 MICHIGAN TECH DEF. NORTHERN MICHIGAN, 59-56 | BOX SCORE

#18 Michigan Tech defeated their rivals Northern Michigan on Sunday in a contest that came down to the wire as an NMU triple to tie it up was unsuccessful. The Huskies were led by Kelli Guy's 15 points, while Lindsay Winter and Hannah Stoll both posted 12 points. NMU's Taylor Hodell came off the bench for a game-high 17 points. The game featured seven ties and 11 lead changes. Tech made its final four free throws to secure the victory.

GRAND VALLEY STATE DEF. PURDUE NORTHWEST, 73-53 | BOX SCORE

A balanced GVSU scoring attack recorded five players in double-figures to earn a 20-point road win on Saturday over PNW. The Lakers jumped out a big 25-10 lead and never looked back. GVSU connected on 12 triples in the contest and forced the Pride into 21 turnovers.

NORTHWOOD DEF. SAGINAW VALLEY, 69-63 | BOX SCORE

Northwood kept Saginaw Valley off the scoreboard from the 4:04 mark of the fourth quarter until eight seconds remained in the contest to pull away for the win. NU's Lindsay Orwat posted a game-high 22 points to lead the Timberwolves to victory, while NU also won the turnover battle 20-9. The Cardinals actually outrebounded NU by a 40-29 margin.

DAVENPORT DEF. WAYNE STATE, 43-41 | BOX SCORE

Davenport picked up a big win over Wayne State on Saturday thanks to a 17-3 third quarter where DU went 8-for-13 from the field while holding WSU to just 1-of-18 shooting. The Panthers held the Warriors to just 22.2 percent shooting on the afternoon and won the battle of the boards, 47-33. 

FERRIS STATE DEF. LAKE SUPERIOR STATE, 78-67 | BOX SCORE

Ferris State controlled the paint to the tune of a 46-26 advantage to earn a big road win on Saturday over Lake State. FSU was paced by 17 points from Rachel McInerney, while Leah Humes chipped in with 14 points in the win. LSSU's Tamara Novic led all scorers with 25 points and 10 rebounds on 12-of-15 shooting.
