BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the opening weekend of the 2017 women's basketball season. Michigan Tech senior guard Lindsay Winter earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Wayne State senior guard Shannon Wilson captured South Division accolades.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Lindsay Winter, Michigan Tech
Michigan Tech senior guard Lindsay Winter had a great opening weekend to the 2017-18 season helping lead Tech to a pair of victories. Winter powered the Huskies with a career high 29 points in the season opener against Davis & Elkins, knocking down 85.7 percent of her shots from the field while going 5 of 7 from behind the arc (71.4%). She also grabbed 11 rebounds which was a new career high until the next game when she pulled down 12 boards at Ursuline. Winter also dished out a career best eight assists in the victory over the Arrows. Over the weekend, Winter averaged 18 points, connected on 71.4% of her field goal attempts, went 6 of 12 from behind the arc, averaged 11.5 rebounds per game, and 5.5 assists per game.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Shannon Wilson, Wayne State
Wayne State senior guard Shannon Wilson led WSU to a pair of victories at the G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge hosted by Lake Erie. Wilson tallied 35 points in the overtime win over Findlay on Saturday and followed that with a 16-point performance in Sunday's triumph over the host Storm to average 25.5 points on the weekend. She shot 55 percent (17-of-31) from the field, and 88 percent (14-of-16) from the foul line, while contributing 11 rebounds, eight assists, five steals and one block.
