Ferris State's Sergiu Laza Named GLIAC Men's Tennis "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ferris State University senior Sergiu Laza (Ontario, Canada/Marshall McLuhan) earned GLIAC Men's Tennis "Athlete of the Week" honors.

Ferris State University’s Sergiu Laza was unbeaten for the Bulldogs in a key GLIAC match against Wayne State last Wednesday (April 3). Laza picked up one of FSU’s two singles wins on the day at the number two flight in the lineup by beating WSU’s Mohamed Fazyl Kechai.  He won the first set 7-5 and was leading the second frame 4-0 when it was stopped and he picked up the victory by retirement.  Laza also paired up with senior Tyler Marengo to record a 8-5 win in doubles play at the second flight, which marked FSU’s lone doubles victory of the day.  He’s currently 11-2 overall in singles action this year, including an impressive 8-0 mark in conference play, and is also unbeaten (7-0) in GLIAC doubles competition.
