Grand Valley State Claims 2013-14 Presidents' Trophy

BAY CITY, Mich. - Grand Valley State University claimed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) 2013-14 Presidents' Trophy. The Presidents' Trophy, commonly referred to as the All-Sports Trophy, is awarded at the end of each year of competition to the conference member having demonstrated general excellence in all or most sports. 

The Presidents' Trophy is designed to promote well-rounded athletic programs within each member institution. This is the 16th consecutive year the Lakers have claimed the prize increasing their overall total to 21, a league high.

Grand Valley State compiled a total score of 233.5.0, outscoring second place Ashland University by 48.5 points. GVSU recorded first place finishes in four men's sports; cross country, indoor track & field, baseball, and outdoor track & field. The Lady Lakers claimed the league crowns in seven sports; cross country, soccer, volleyball, indoor track & field, golf, lacrosse and outdoor track & field.

For the ninth consecutive year Ashland University placed second in the standings. The Eagle's total score of 185.0 resulted seven runner-up finishes. Those sececond place finishes are men's golf, men's indoor track and field, men's outdoor track and field, volleyball, women's basketball, women's indoor track and field, and women's outdoor track. Ashland also had three third place finishes including men's cross country, women's soccer, and wrrestling.

Wayne State State University finished third with a total of 142.0 points. The Warrior's claimed a GLIAC championships in men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, and basketball, and second place finishes in, men's tennis, women's tennis, and softball.

Ferris State University has claimed the second-most Presidents' Trophies with 14. Ashland University and Wayne State University have each claimed three, while Hillsdale College has recorded one.
