Ferris State's Jason Vander Laan Named GLIAC Football "Offensive Player of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ferris State University sophomore quarterback Jason Vander Laan (Frankfort, Ill./Chicago Christian) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" after rushing for a career-high 279 yards and four touchdowns, while throwing for three more scores in the Bulldogs' 56-49 win over Lake Erie College on Saturday.  Wayne State University senior linebacker Ed Viverette (Southfield, Mich./Brother Rice) earned "Defensive Player of the Week Honors," while Ohio Dominican University  sophomore defensive lineman Di'Andre Harrison (Columbus, Ohio/Centennial) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."

GLIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week:
Jason Vander Laan  - Ferris State
(SO, QB, 6-4, 236, Frankfort, Ill./Chicago Christian)

Ferris State University sophomore QB Jason Vander Laan accounted for seven touchdowns and had a record day on the ground as the Bulldogs beat Lake Erie in a high-scoring affair by a 56-49 count on Saturday night. The 6-4 signal caller ran for a personal career-high 279 yards and four TDs while averaging 10.3 yards per carry. He also completed 14-of-23 passes for 170 yards and three scores without an interception or a sack. Vander Laan led the Bulldogs to 571 yards of total offense and 401 yards on the ground, which included his 63-yard touchdown run at the end of the third quarter to give FSU a 14-point lead.

GLIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week:
Ed Viverette - Wayne State
(SR, LB, 6-0, 224, Southfield, Mich./Brother Rice)

Wayne State University senior linebacker Ed Viverette totaled nine tackles (7-2) including 3.5 sacks.  He had a 42-yard fumble return for a TD just before halftime.  Ed also contributed two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble as WSU defeated Ashland for the first time since 2009. He led a Warrior defense that limited Ashland to 366 yards of total offense and forced a pair of turnovers.

GLIAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week:
Di'Andre Harrison - Ohio Dominican

(SO, DL, 6-4, 260, Columbus, Ohio/Centennial)

Ohio Dominican University sophomore defensive lineman Di'Andre Harrison accounted for two of ODU's scores in the win over Hillsdale. He blocked a punt through the back of the end zone for a safety that gave ODU a 16-14 lead, then recovered a Hillsdale fumble in the end zone for a TD. Those two plays came less than two minutes apart and helped ODU pull away from the Chargers in the third quarter, building a 30-14 lead.  Harrison also made four solo tackles and 1.0 tackle-for-loss, which knocked Hillsdale back to its one-yard line and came on the play before the fumble recovery.
