BAY CITY, Mich. - Wayne State University senior Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Soren Holm (Rodovre, Denmark) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Carol Azambuja - Wayne
State University
Senior - Sao Paulo, Brazil
Wayne State University senior Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won both the 50 freestyle (23.66) and 50 butterfly (26.23) on Friday as the Wayne State earned a 168-121 dual meet win at Findlay. She also anchored the winning 200 medley relay team and led off the first-place 200 freestyle relay squad. Azambuja, who has earned four NCAA "B" cut qualifying times this season, won two individual events (200 backstroke, 200 freestyle) and led off both winning relay teams to help lead the Warriors to a 178-122 Senior Day win Jan. 11 over Grand Valley. She surpassed an NCAA "B" cut qualifying time with her 2:03.29 in the 200 backstroke against GVSU.

Soren Holm - Wayne
State University
Freshman - Rodovre, Denmark
Wayne State University freshman Soren Holm (Rodovre, Denmark) helped lead the Warriors to a 174-87 victory over Findlay on Friday, by winning the 50 backstroke with a season-best time of 24.13. He placed second in the 50 butterfly (23.32) and swam legs on two second-place relays for the Warriors. Holm was also instrumental in Wayne State's 153-147 home win over rival Grand Valley on Jan. 11. He won both the 100 and 200 butterfly events. In the 100 butterfly, Holm earned an NCAA "B" cut qualifying time of 48.86. He had a time of 1:53.42 on his way to victory in the 200 butterfly.
