BAY CITY, Mich. - Ferris State University sophomore quarterback  Jason Vander Laan  (Frankfort, Ill./Chicago Christian) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" after leading the Bulldogs to a 54-44 win over No. 23 Grand Valley State University on Saturday.  Ferris State senior defensive back James Stewart (Detroit, Mich./University Prep) earned "Defensive Player of the Week Honors," while Saginaw Valley State University junior kicker Scott Stanford (Novi, Mich./Novi H.S.) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."















GLIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week:
Jason Vander Laan  - Ferris State

(SO, QB, 6-4, 236, Frankfort, Ill./Chicago Christian)

FSU sophomore quarterback Jason Vander Laan keyed the Bulldogs’ 54-44 win over archrival Grand Valley State on Saturday night (Oct. 12) in the Anchor-Bone Classic.  Vander Laan ran for 210 yards on 27 carries (7.8 avg.) with two TD’s on the ground as Ferris State rolled up a school-record 465 yards rushing.  He also threw for 118 yards on nine-of-16 passing with two scores under rainy conditions as the Bulldogs netted 583 yards of total offense. His 27-yard touchdown run with 2:52 to play sealed the victory for FSU with the win enabling the Bulldogs to keep pace in the GLIAC North.

GLIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week:
James Stewart - Ferris State

Ferris State University senior cornerback James Stewart made a critical play in the Bulldogs’ 54-44 win over archrival Grand Valley in the Anchor-Bone Classic on Saturday (Oct. 12) night at FSU’s Top Taggart Field.  After the Bulldogs had taken a 10-point lead early in the fourth quarter in the back-and-forth contest, Stewart intercepted a tipped Laker pass and raced 62 yards to the endzone on the pick six to push the margin to 17 points, which helped seal the victory.  He finished the game with six tackles as the Bulldog defense limited GVSU to 340 yards of total offense in the contest.

GLIAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week:
Scott Stanford - Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State University junior kicker Scott Stanford had a big day in the Cardinals’ Axe Bowl victory over Northwood University on Saturday evening (Oct. 12).  Stanford was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, including a 51-yarder.  He had seven touchbacks on nine total kickoffs as well as making-good on all five of his extra-point attempts in the victory. Stanford is now six-for-six on field goal attempts on the season and ranks and second in the GLIAC in kick scoring with 50 points.
